Cleaning and Care 101

ROPE HAMMOCKS:

If you have a rope hammock, you have one of three sizes:

• Single hammock: 78” x 48” x 12 ½ feet overall (14 holes in wood)
• Standard hammock: 84”x 56” x 13 ½ feet overall (18 holes in wood)
• Deluxe hammocks: 84” x 65” x 13 ½ feet overall (22 holes in wood)

Cleaning and care: Your rope hammock is made of soft spun polyester rope. This means that it will not rot like cotton rope and should last 15-20 years if cared for properly. Dirt and surface mildew can accumulate on the rope. The best way to clean the rope (white rope only) is to mix about a cup of bleach with a gallon of water and a couple of drops of dish soap. Put the mixture into a pump style sprayer, spray all over the rope (try to avoid the wood) and let it sit in the sun for about 20 minutes. Spray off with a powerful garden hose and let dry in the sun. Repeat if necessary.

Your hammock’s spreader bars are made of ash, one of the most durable hardwoods available. Each piece is coated (dipped) in a satin marine spar varnish ( high gloss polyurethane varnish previously). With exposure to the sun, this varnish will wear off after 3-5 years, but this will not compromise the durability of the wood. If you wish to refinish the spreader bars, you will need to hand sand them with a fine grain sandpaper and brush on a high gloss polyurethane varnish.

QUILTED HAMMOCKS:

Outer Banks quilted hammocks are all the same size: 84” x 54” x 13 ½ overall. The bed is made of rot and fade resistant Outdura fabric, which can be cleaned with soap and warm water. Tough stains can be removed with a similar bleach and water combination as is used on the rope hammocks, but only as a last resort.
